"Florida-based artist Linda Hall makes fantastical, story-like sculptures and paintings of the human world transposed into the animal world, or vice versa. Papier-mâché beasts barnacled with flowers and beads, quilted and antlered deer, fangs, glitter, benevolent spirits, animal bodies left empty and open, turned into attire for humans to wear. I find it hard to look away from Hall’s work, which reminds me of Kiki Smith’s, but with a keener eye toward the comically sublime. And Hall’s work radiates friendliness, even when it also reflects loneliness; her sculptures would show as well in an overgrownyard as on a museum wall."
